Helen Chiang, former Xbox COO, publicly challenges circumstances of her sudden exit from Microsoft after 21 years, denying policy violations and alleging unfair treatment.
Helen Chiang, who recently served as chief operating officer of Xbox at Microsoft, has publicly shared serious concerns about the way her departure from the company was handled. Chiang was abruptly let go less than two weeks ago after a promotion to the COO role in July, ending a 21-year tenure at Microsoft.
In a detailed LinkedIn post titled "clarity is kindness," Chiang confirmed she was fired but did not specify the reasons. She directly denied claims reported by Eurogamer suggesting she was terminated for policy violations, calling them inaccurate. Chiang also refuted other rumors, including accusations of leaking confidential information or leaving to join a competitor. She emphasized her longstanding loyalty to Xbox and Microsoft, stating, "Xbox was never just another stop in my career. My end game was always to keep building here."
Chiang strongly rejected allegations involving serious misconduct such as discrimination, bullying, harassment, insider trading, embezzlement, or fraud. Multiple Xbox employees had described her as highly respected and a person of integrity. In her post, Chiang wrote, "I stand by my record: both the results I delivered and the way I have treated people throughout my career."
Highlighting issues of fairness and accountability, Chiang indicated potential inconsistencies in how company standards were applied in her situation: "I have serious concerns about how they were applied in my case, and I believe those concerns deserve to be taken seriously."
She expressed regret that her departure did not align with how she envisioned her story at Xbox concluding and hinted at further information yet to emerge.
Requests for comment from Microsoft regarding Chiang’s post were not answered before publication, and it remains unclear whether Chiang plans to pursue legal action. This sudden and controversial exit raises questions about internal dynamics at Xbox and Microsoft’s management practices.
