Former Apple CEO Tim Cook says he fully trusts new CEO John Ternus and focuses on global policy rather than meddling in Apple’s daily operations.
Tim Cook, who stepped down as Apple’s CEO in September and transitioned to an executive chairman role, has emphasized that he is not interfering with the leadership of his successor, John Ternus. Ternus, previously Apple’s hardware chief, assumed the CEO position with Cook continuing as a prominent figure representing the company.
In an interview with The Independent reported by The Verge, Cook highlighted the strong trust and communication between himself and Ternus, which underpins their working relationship. Cook stated that his current focus is on worldwide policy matters and government relations to advocate for change, rather than the company’s daily management. He affirmed, “I’m not meddling. I’m not a meddler.”
Cook further encouraged Ternus to “make it your own job” and focus his efforts where he can provide the most value to Apple, advising against simply emulating Cook’s approach, just as Cook did not imitate his predecessor Steve Jobs. Bloomberg recently noted that Ternus too expressed his intention to prioritize areas where he can contribute most effectively.
The leadership transition was planned years in advance to be a smooth and exemplary process. Cook remarked that it has proceeded exactly as he envisioned. Shortly after taking over, Ternus introduced the new iPhone Duo, a launch Cook described as giving Ternus “some wind at his back.”
This shift marks a new chapter for Apple’s management, with Cook dedicating himself primarily to policy and strategic advocacy, while Ternus spearheads product innovation and operational leadership.
