South Korean startup Lutra launches the HOA A1, a unique screen-free digital camera designed with a large transparent viewfinder, allowing photographers to keep eye contact with subjects while shooting. The device features wireless photo transfer and blockchain authentication.
Lutra, a South Korean startup, has introduced a new brand called Humans of Authenticity (HOA), unveiling an innovative digital camera aimed at enhancing the connection between photographers and their subjects. The HOA A1 camera distinguishes itself with a large transparent viewfinder, enabling photographers to maintain eye contact during shooting instead of looking at a conventional screen. This design encourages a more natural interaction and presence while framing shots. The camera’s design is reminiscent of the Godox C100, but emphasizes placing the lens and sensor near the center of the open viewfinder window to facilitate this direct visual engagement. Scheduled for a limited release on December 1, 2026, the HOA A1 First Edition will be available in a run of just 100 units, priced at 360,000 South Korean won, approximately $289 in the US. The HOA A1 is equipped with a 16-megapixel Sony sensor sized 1/2.53 inches, paired with a 26mm f/1.75 lens. Unlike conventional digital cameras, it incorporates only a small LCD on the rear to relay essential information such as battery life and photo count, with minimal controls limited to a top-edge shutter button. Details on its photographic performance remain limited as the company continues to refine color and tone settings in collaboration with photographers. Rather than using physical connections or memory cards for file transfers, the camera employs Wi-Fi connectivity to wirelessly transfer images to a smartphone via a simple tap on the camera’s back. While Wi-Fi is necessary for accessing and downloading photos, it is not required for capturing images. Notably, the camera integrates ShootProof technology, which authenticates photos by recording an anonymous certificate linked to a public blockchain. This feature ensures image provenance and cannot be disabled. Additionally, photographers can optionally enable a signature mode through a companion app, allowing their name to be digitally overlaid on photos. Lutra’s HOA A1 represents a fresh approach to digital photography, prioritizing human connection and enhancing the shooting experience through its transparent viewfinder and innovative digital features.
