Snapchat has surpassed 30 million paid subscribers a year after limiting free Memories storage, driven by Snapchat+ and new premium tiers including Lens+ and Snapchat+ Platinum.

Snap Inc. announced that its paid subscriber base has grown beyond 30 million, marking a significant milestone in its monetization efforts. This figure, disclosed in the company's Q3 2026 earnings release, reflects an increase of 5 million subscribers since February when the count was 25 million. This growth comes roughly four years after Snapchat introduced its first subscription service, Snapchat+, in 2022.

Snapchat+ offers subscribers early access and exclusive features for $3.99 per month. To diversify revenue, Snap expanded its subscription offerings by adding higher-tier plans such as Lens+, priced at $8.99 monthly, which provides exclusive augmented reality Lenses and experiences, and Snapchat+ Platinum, a $15.99 tier that delivers an ad-free user environment.

The subscriber expansion follows a controversial policy change made a year prior, when Snap limited free storage for its Memories feature. Users were required either to pay $1.99 monthly for additional storage or to subscribe to Snapchat+ to maintain access to their saved Memories.

CEO Evan Spiegel highlighted the role of artificial intelligence-powered features in driving demand, especially for Lens+, stating, "Innovative AI-powered features have helped Lens+ exceed our expectations, demonstrating how new creative experiences can drive demand for our paid products." He also noted that despite growth, paid subscribers still represent a relatively small portion of Snapchat’s user base, suggesting significant potential for further adoption.

Despite this milestone, Snap's overall financial performance for the quarter showed challenges. The company reported 495 million daily active users, slightly below analysts’ expectations of 499 million, causing shares to fall 12%. Ad revenue growth also lagged behind company targets, though Snap emphasized its focus on improving advertiser performance and expanding advertising options.

Snap’s long-term strategy appears to prioritize sustainable user engagement and product safety over short-term daily active user counts, with Spiegel expressing a commitment to creating lasting user value and durable audience growth.
