Confluent, an IBM company, unveiled its Streamhouse data architecture that continuously integrates and governs real-time business data, enabling AI agents and applications to make decisions using a consistent current view of enterprise operations.

On November 4, 2026, Confluent, now part of IBM, announced the introduction of its Streamhouse architecture—a new data infrastructure designed to deliver up-to-the-moment business context for AI agents, applications, and analytics. This architecture addresses a significant challenge enterprises face as AI increasingly drives decisions: disparate systems often hold conflicting or outdated views of business operations, causing errors in AI-driven processes.

Traditional data lakes, warehouses, and lakehouses were built primarily for batch reporting and do not support the real-time data needs of AI workflows that operate continuously. Systems updating asynchronously can lead to inconsistent states, such as the example of airline flight operations, scheduling, and reservations tracking different views independently. Streamhouse continuously captures, processes, governs, and serves a unified, current business state, ensuring AI agents act on accurate, timely information.

Confluent’s Data Streaming Platform (DSP) now fully supports building a Streamhouse by integrating five pillars—Stream, Connect, Process, Govern, and the newly added Query. Apache Kafka forms the streaming backbone, while additions like Lightning Tables provide low-latency SQL and API access to updated business data without needing separate databases or caches. Lightning Tables, generally available on AWS, reduce query latency to 10–100 milliseconds and support high query throughput, making real-time serving of business context feasible and cost-effective.

Enterprises like Accenture have adopted the Streamhouse architecture to decentralize data access, reducing time-to-insight from months to days. The platform supports hybrid environments, leveraging IBM's integration, governance, and AI capabilities to unify data seamlessly.

The architecture is built on three key principles: maintaining a continuously updated and governed current business context, delivering production-grade reliability, and decentralizing data to be accessible where needed without forced consolidation. This approach complements existing data warehouses and lakehouses by adding an operational real-time layer critical for AI functions.

Confluent provides hands-on labs and quickstart guides to help organizations build Streamhouse solutions using Confluent Cloud, Apache Flink, and other tools. The company emphasizes that Streamhouse empowers enterprises to run AI agents with truthful, up-to-date operational data, enabling more responsive fraud detection, customer service, and operational decisions.

Shaun Clowes, General Manager of Confluent and Data at IBM, stated, “The next era of enterprise AI will be won by the agents that know what's happening in the business the moment they act.” The Streamhouse, powered by Confluent’s platform, is positioned as foundational technology to realize this vision, providing a live, governed view of enterprise data necessary for timely, accurate AI-driven decisions.
