Perplexity introduces 'Teammates,' AI agents aimed at enhancing workplace productivity by handling multiple roles and integrating with existing projects. These agents operate collaboratively and simultaneously, accessible through app threads and Slack, available via a premium subscription.
Perplexity, a rising AI startup, has launched a new product called 'Teammates,' an innovative suite of AI agents tailored specifically for workplace environments. This introduction puts Perplexity in direct competition with established AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic by focusing on collaborative and large-scale work completed through AI automation.
The 'Teammates' feature builds upon Perplexity's existing AI infrastructure known as Perplexity Computer, which can deploy AI agents locally on users' devices to perform designated tasks. Unlike its predecessor, these new agents can operate simultaneously across multiple roles within a workspace, engaging in ongoing projects while drawing on accumulated skills, project data, and memory from the user's use of Perplexity's tools.
Each AI agent functions within its own dedicated communication thread inside the Perplexity app, allowing users to monitor progress closely. Moreover, integration with the widely used communication platform Slack offers greater flexibility and accessibility for team interactions. This setup enables businesses to potentially deploy hundreds of these AI teammates per user, dramatically scaling AI-assisted work capabilities.
This advanced functionality, however, comes at a premium. Access to the 'Teammates' feature is limited to subscribers of Perplexity's Max plan, which costs $200 per month. This pricing places it at a higher tier compared to competing solutions like OpenAI's Dots and Anthropic's Claude Duet, which offer similar multi-agent capabilities.
Perplexity's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, envisions a future in which AI teammates become integral to organizational workflows, with large numbers of AI agents supporting individual users to enhance productivity and task management. While still early in adoption, these developments mark a significant step forward in workplace AI collaboration tools as companies seek to leverage AI for complex, ongoing projects.
Overall, Perplexity's launch of Teammates signals its commitment to expanding AI's role in professional settings by providing enterprises with scalable, multi-agent AI solutions designed to integrate seamlessly into existing digital workspaces.
