Apple announces 100,000 apps optimized for the iPhone Duo foldable, with thousands more arriving daily, including major titles like Microsoft Word, Zoom, and Instagram, improving user experience on the new form factor.

Since the launch of the iPhone Duo, Apple's new foldable device, early reviews noted a scarcity of apps fully optimized for its unique dual-screen design. However, as of early November 2026, Apple reports significant progress in this area. According to a November 6, 2026, announcement from the company, the App Store now hosts over 100,000 apps specifically optimized for the iPhone Duo, with thousands more being added daily. This surge includes major productivity and entertainment apps such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Zoom, NBA, NHL, Etsy, LTK, Goodnotes, Extra, and Halide Mark III, joining earlier optimized apps like Netflix, YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Non-optimized apps currently present a suboptimal experience on the Duo, often displaying a black bar on the side and relegating some functions to overflow menus, which reduces usable screen space. The rapid increase in optimized apps reflects developer adoption, supported by Apple's extensive outreach efforts. Over 2,000 developers have participated in more than 50 in-person workshops held in 19 cities worldwide, where they could test the Duo and receive guidance from Apple.

The device itself has outpaced Apple’s initial sales expectations despite its premium starting price of $1,999 for the 256GB model. It quickly sold out upon launch, pushing shipping dates into early 2027. Apple acknowledged during its latest earnings call that constraints affecting Duo availability remain difficult to predict.

Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, Susan Prescott, expressed enthusiasm for the developer response, highlighting creativity and rapid adoption as key factors in achieving the milestone of 100,000 optimized apps.

Additional notable apps updated for iOS 27 and optimized for the Duo include Spotify, CBS, Tubi, BBC iPlayer, Facebook Messenger, Google Chat, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP Concur, monday.com, PDF Expert, Substack, The Washington Post, Yahoo News, FOX News, Canva, Tinder, Google Translate, Strava, and many others. Some updates have yet to be fully deployed; for example, Spotify still shows the black sidebar on the Duo, and the corresponding update is pending on the App Store.
