San Francisco-based AI inference startup Fal has doubled its valuation to $16 billion, raising $1.3 billion in a Series F round led by Bessemer Venture Partners amid growing demand for AI model inference services.

Fal, a San Francisco-based startup specializing in hosting and running AI video, image, and audio models, has raised $1.3 billion in its latest Series F funding round. This round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners and included participation from Nvidia, Sound Ventures, and T. Rowe Price. The latest investment has doubled the company's valuation to $16 billion, a significant increase from the $8 billion valuation it held in April of the same year, according to Bloomberg.

The funding announcement combined both the Series E and Series F rounds, with a total of $1.65 billion raised across these stages. The Series E round was previously led by Sequoia. The surge in Fal's value and investment activity coincides with sharply increasing demand for AI inference services—the process by which trained AI models generate outputs, a critical component for companies using open-source AI models.

Earlier in the year, Fal reported surpassing $800 million in annualized revenue, reflecting rapid growth in its core business. While other companies providing AI inference services such as Baseten, Fireworks AI, and Modal are also experiencing high growth and raising significant capital, many face tight gross margins due to the substantial costs of computing resources required to deliver these services.

Founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur, previously a machine learning leader at Coinbase and an engineer at Oracle, alongside co-founder Gorkem Yurtseven, a former Amazon developer, Fal has quickly become a prominent player in the AI infrastructure space. The company's ability to attract heavyweight investors and scale revenue emphasizes the critical importance and expanding market for efficient AI inference solutions.
