Mintive, founded by AI veterans from Google Brain and Coursera, has raised $11 million to deliver a user-friendly platform that helps IT teams govern and control enterprise AI agents efficiently.

Mintive, a startup established by AI engineers with decades of experience at Google Brain and Coursera, has recently raised a total of $11 million, including a $7 million seed round led by Cowboy Ventures. Other investors include Coatue, Operator Collective, Hustle Fund, along with prominent angels such as Jeff Dean, former Google Chief Scientist; Andrej Karpathy, OpenAI co-founder; and Okta co-founder Frederic Kerrest.

The founders, CEO Jiquan Ngiam and CTO Vijay Vasudevan, bring noteworthy expertise—Ngiam was the first engineer at Coursera and contributed to neural network research at Google Brain, while Vasudevan co-created TensorFlow, one of the pioneering AI training platforms.

Mintive enters a competitive market filled with companies like Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic, all offering AI agent management solutions. The startup’s platform features a multi-cloud provider (MCP) gateway allowing IT to control agent permissions over cloud services, an LLM gateway that routes requests to different language models while capping costs, and robust agent identity and authorization management distinct from employee credentials. Additionally, Mintive supports creation and monitoring of agents capable of executing long-running proactive tasks.

What sets Mintive apart, according to Ngiam, is its ease of use. The system is designed for straightforward setup through a few clicks, abstracting technical complexities like sandboxing, permission layers, and memory management. This user-friendly approach has attracted over 50 enterprise customers since launching in February, including notable names such as Ro, Modern Treasury, University of Michigan, Coursera, Apax, and Stability AI.

Cowboy Ventures managing partner Aileen Lee highlighted the importance of infrastructure that provides governance, visibility, and control for AI integration. She also praised Mintive’s prudent fundraising approach, contrasting it with other startups raising extravagant amounts and valuations, deeming Mintive’s strategy as sustainable, focused growth.

While the AI agent management field is crowded and competitive, Mintive’s combination of experienced leadership, investor confidence, and emphasis on usability position it as a noteworthy contender in enterprise AI infrastructure development.
