Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup enabling deployment of multiple AI agents to tackle software projects in parallel, aiming to enhance its AI capabilities in coding and development tools.
Meta announced the acquisition of Conductor, an AI-driven coding startup founded in 2024. Conductor’s platform specializes in deploying agentic teams—multiple AI agents working simultaneously on compartmentalized aspects of software projects. These agent teams can operate in various environments including cloud services, local machines, and mobile devices.
The startup's founder and CEO, Charlie Holtz, revealed the acquisition and hinted at plans for a new interface to debut by early next year. On social media, Holtz expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta's Superintelligence Labs, highlighting the lab’s impressive talent density.
Unlike developing proprietary AI models, Conductor integrates agents from major AI labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI, providing a flexible system for software engineers. Currently, Conductor will maintain its existing features until early next year, with the exception of its cloud service that will shut down on November 20, after which user cloud data will be deleted.
This acquisition fits within Meta's broader strategy to accelerate its AI tools and services after a slower start compared to competitors. Earlier in the year, Meta launched its Muse Code coding agent and introduced Muse agents that have quickly gained over 10 million users. The company also acquired Moltbook, a popular AI agent platform, further underscoring its commitment to AI development.
By integrating Conductor’s technology, Meta aims to enhance its AI-assisted software engineering capabilities, possibly influencing how developers collaborate and build complex projects using intelligent agent teams. Details regarding the terms of the acquisition or the integrated product roadmap have not been disclosed yet by Meta.
