Suunto Unveils Race 3S Smartwatch with Brighter Screen and Double the Memory

Suunto has launched the Race 3S smartwatch, featuring a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with triple the brightness of its predecessor and doubled built-in storage, enhancing visibility and data capacity.
Finnish company Suunto has introduced the Race 3S, an upgraded version of the Race S model released earlier in 2024. The new smartwatch retains a 45 mm diameter case, with a thickness of 11.4 mm and a lightweight design weighing 53 grams. The device maintains the same physical interface on its right side, including two buttons and a digital crown for control.
Designed with durability in mind, the Race 3S continues to support water resistance up to 5 ATM and integrates GPS for positioning, alongside compatibility with mapping applications. The most notable enhancement is the new 1.32-inch AMOLED display, offering a resolution of 466 by 466 pixels and reaching a peak brightness of 2000 nits. This brightness level is approximately triple that of the previous model's 600 nits, significantly improving screen legibility under bright outdoor conditions.
Additionally, Suunto replaced the former Gorilla Glass protection with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, increasing the display's resistance to damage. Another key upgrade is the doubling of the smartwatch's internal storage from 32 GB to 64 GB, to better accommodate offline maps and locally stored music.
Battery life has also been improved when using GPS, extending from 30 hours on the Race S to up to 45 hours on the Race 3S. However, Suunto has yet to disclose full details about the device’s runtime during normal everyday use. The prior model was capable of functioning for up to five days without recharging.
Overall, the Race 3S advances the Race series’ focus on sporty, durable smartwatches by enhancing screen visibility, storage capacity, and GPS battery endurance, while preserving a compact and sturdy design.
