Details of Two New Sony PlayStation Devices Revealed via Wi-Fi Certification

Wi-Fi Alliance listings disclose two unannounced Sony PlayStation devices running Android 15, suggesting upcoming cloud gaming hardware updates including a potential OLED screen model.
New information about two unreleased Sony PlayStation devices, identified as models CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, has surfaced through their certification by the Wi-Fi Alliance. These devices are listed in the category of game consoles and peripherals and certified for Wi-Fi connectivity on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. Both are reported to operate on Android 15, marking a continuation of Sony's approach in the cloud gaming segment.
This development was highlighted by The Verge senior reporter Jay Peters, who noted that the previous PlayStation Portal device carried the model identifier CFI-Y1001. This suggests Sony is preparing to launch two new cloud gaming devices following the initial PlayStation Portal, which achieved an estimated 2 million units sold in the United States alone and was considered successful.
The original PS Portal allows streaming games from a PlayStation 5 console as well as from the PlayStation Plus cloud streaming service. However, access to the cloud gaming service requires an additional subscription costing about $160 annually. Reports indicate that one of the forthcoming devices might feature an OLED screen, potentially enhancing the gaming experience.
Amid rising memory shortages and increasing console prices, Sony appears to be focusing on expanding its PlayStation Portal line as a significant revenue source. These new devices may reflect Sony's strategy to capitalize further on cloud gaming, offering versatile options for gamers who want access to PlayStation titles remotely.
Official details on features, pricing, and release timing have yet to be disclosed by Sony. The Wi-Fi certification is the first public sign pointing to Sony's ongoing developments in portable cloud gaming hardware for the PlayStation ecosystem.
